Handel Music to the Royal Fireworks Hummel Trumpet Concerto - Hayato Tanaka, trumpet Haydn Lord Nelson Mass - Asheville Symphony Chorus - Dr. Michael Lancaster, director - WCU Concert Choir Dr. Michael Lancaster, director
The Baroque and Classical eras feature some of the most brilliant and virtuosic music composed for brass, and we celebrate these bright colors in a program that explodes with the joyous Music to the Royal Fireworks. With trumpets ablaze, kettle drums rumbling, and jaunty, infectious dance rhythms, this music seems perfect for a kings celebration. We are proud to continue to feature some of the finest young artists who study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, this time with young phenomenon, Hayato Tanaka, who has chosen Hummels Concerto to highlight his incredible skills on the trumpet. We cap our evening with another brassy, triumphant work which will feature the voices of the Asheville Symphony Chorus and a quartet of superb, young vocal soloists. Haydns Lord Nelson Mass is perfect in its contrast of power and tenderness in the face of an almighty, yet loving God.
