NOT on spectrum or wilkes "two cans and a string" lol
But in all seriousness dude...IBM? That's very very odd. I know the system you had this place "parked."
It's verrrry odd for the insanely good IT there. To even remotely muck up. But? Dude I knoooooww you get a lot of spoofing. Coming from China and Asia period. We GOTTA have a cup o Joe soon.

I tried rebooting again last night, but it had no impact. A reboot takes about 30 minutes to complete so I only do it during the day in case of emergency.

Using Embarq, when I trace the route from my house to the server I see a few failed hops, too, but it still connects. When I switched to Google DNS it had the same breaks, so I'm not entirely convinced that the problem is with Charter / Spectrum. I still think the problem is with IBM, but they just keep passing it to someone else.

It's odd that the issue started after you re-boot...maybe do another?

Great info, DougalDragon, thanks! For those that can read this but aren't sure how to use Google DNS or OpenDNS, it's a free and great solution:

But I did find where we had a similar issue in July 2019, and just like now, all I could do was sit around and wait on them to get off their hands. Which is incredibly frustrating!!

If I was having an issue I'd call for you. But I'm all good and not on Spectrum.

OK, all, IBM is convinced that the problem is ONLY with Charter / Spectrum. I just finished a conference call with one of Spectrum's techs, and he said that they need AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE that's having this problem to call in and report it.

The number to call is 833-267-6094

Their automated system will ask for your account number (or I think telephone number), and then say "Internet Repair" to get to an internet tech.

They speak normal English, I promise.

Tell them that you are in North Carolina and unable to reach GoWilkes.com or GoNC.net. The tech made a note for them to group any ticket with Go-something together.

If one person calls then they're going to think it's a problem with their modem. If 10 people call, though, then they will see that it's on their end.

I've been working on a site rebuild for several years, but we've had such an impossible time finding employees that actually want to work that I pretty much have to do everything So I only get to code when I have a little free time.

This isn't an issue with the site or server, though, it's with the bandwidth provider. The routes that were sent to me all fail at the same place, so the problem is along the path that Spectrum takes to reach the server.

IBM has been ridiculously slow to work with, and I'm pretty sure the tech that's assigned to me can't tie his own shoes. It's been a very frustrating 15 hours or so.

As of almost 2am, they're still working on it. At this point they're still not sure whether the problem is on their end or Spectrum's.

When I trace the route from my home PC through Embarq, though, I see that some of the hops are very slow; they don't fail, they're just slow. But based on where the breaks and slow hops are occurring, I'm pretty sure that the problem is actually with IBM.

I'll update this thread as I learn more. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks to everyone that replied to help out! I think I have enough information now, and my bandwidth provider has a few teams working on it to track down the problem.

I'll post back as soon as I get an update.

We're working on it, I'm on the phone with my bandwidth provider as we speak.

I could really use multiple people that are having this problem to help me track it down, the more people that chime in the easier it will be to narrow down. If you have a computer that's on the network that can't reach GoWilkes and you want to help for the next 5-10 minutes, please PM me here or email [email protected]

I did have to reboot the server last night, but that shouldn't have anything to do with it. I'm using CenturyLink and not having a problem, so I'm almost positive that this is related to your internet provider.

Until someone tells me their IP address my hands are tied, but someone did tell me by PM that they're having a problem and using Charter. Powerball and itsmeitsme, are you using Charter, too?

Powerball

Yep....all good last night and not working this morning...I turned off WiFi on my phone and gowilkes works fine

You are not the only one. Someone call me and wanted to know if I could get to gowilkes.

MT, that's obviously not a real IP But I wouldn't care to show a real one, they're essentially useless now. In the late 90s it was dangerous for someone to see your IP, but unless you're using Windows 95 there's nothing anyone can really do with it.

Powerball, unfortunately that doesn't really mean anything. Most sites don't block non-US IP addresses because they either want foreign users or they value bots and viruses to falsely inflate their numbers, but since we only target local users it's easier to block anything outside of the US and then manually whitelist expats upon request.

I also remember one time a few years ago when Wilkes Telephone accidentally (?) blocked us in their network, so no one on Wilkes Telephone could access us.

So definitely let me know your IP, and I'll see what I can find on my end.

Other sites work fine.... only gowilkes is not working
